Privacy Policy

The Short Version

We collect your email address and zip code when you sign up for the newsletter. We use that data to send you weekly fight briefings personalized to your area. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with anyone except Beehiiv (our email provider). That's it.

What We Collect

• Email address — required to send you the newsletter
• ZIP code — used to personalize your GDD threat data and local sighting reports
• Sighting reports — if you submit a sighting report via the map, we collect the location (county/zip level), life stage observed, and count. We do not collect your IP address or associate sightings with your account.
• Anonymous analytics — we use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first tool that collects no personal identifiers, no cookies, and no cross-site tracking. You can view Plausible's data model at plausible.io/data-policy.

What We Don't Collect

• No passwords (we don't have user accounts)
• No payment data (the newsletter is free)
• No third-party tracking cookies
• No ad network pixels
• No precise location data (zip code only)

How We Use Your Data

• Send you the weekly Lanternfly Watch newsletter during SLF season (July–November)
• Personalize threat level data and local sighting reports to your zip code
• Aggregate anonymized sighting data to build the national spread map

Third-Party Services

• Beehiiv — our email platform. Your email and zip code are stored in Beehiiv's system. See their privacy policy at beehiiv.com/privacy.
• Supabase — our database for sighting reports. Data is stored in a US-region Supabase instance. See supabase.com/privacy.
• Open-Meteo — we query their free weather API to compute GDD data for your zip code. No personal data is sent to Open-Meteo.
• Vercel — our hosting provider. Standard web server logs (IP addresses) may be collected by Vercel per their policies. These are not accessible to us. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Unsubscribe & Data Deletion

Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you from the list immediately. To request deletion of all data we hold about you, email us at hello@lanternflywatch.com and we will remove your record from our systems within 7 business days.
