MY KILLSEvery Bug Counts

Every spotted lanternfly you eliminate is a tree you saved, a harvest you protected, and a generation of insects that never hatches. This is what civic action looks like.

The ROI

Your Contribution Math

It doesn't feel like much when you're out there alone with a credit card. Here's the actual math.

Up to 50
insects prevented
1 egg mass scraped

One mass, one generation gone before it starts. A credit card and 30 seconds.

30–50
fewer eggs in the world
1 adult killed in July

Killing adults in peak season removes eggs that would have been laid days later.

100s
insects lose a feeding site
1 ToH tree treated

Remove the host, remove the magnet. Tree of Heaven is the #1 feeding target.

1 report
can trigger state response
Reporting a sighting

Verified sightings in new counties trigger rapid response from state agencies.

Field Guide

How to Kill SLF

Five methods that actually work, ranked by speed and season. No special equipment required for most of them.

Instant kill

Step on them

Most effective. Most satisfying. No equipment needed. They cannot jump β€” just stomp.

Highest ROI

Scrape egg masses

Use a credit card, putty knife, or stiff brush. Scrape into rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer in a sealed bag. Best done January–April.

No chemicals

Dish soap + water

Mix 1–2 tablespoons of dish soap with a quart of water in a spray bottle. Kills on direct contact. Works on nymphs and adults.

Instant kill

Swat or smash

Any hard surface works. They land and sit β€” a rolled magazine, shoe, or your hand. They do not sting or bite.

Passive

Circle trap + sticky band

Wrap Tree of Heaven trunks with sticky bands or DIY circle traps. Passive collection 24/7. Check weekly and replace when full.
